CAPTAIN AMERICA -THE TRAINING OF A SUPER SOLDIER BY R C. HINSON. Captain America, star spangled sentinel of liberty is the ideal vision of the super soldier, the broad muscular shoulders and heavy traps of a weight lifter, the chest ,back, and abdominal development of an Olympic gymnast, the piston like arms of the heavy weight boxing champion,complete with the legs of an N F L running back. But how did cap obtain this incredible body? According to caps origin, Steve Rogers [ caps real name] was once so frail that the u. s. armed forces turned him down citing him as unfit to serve his country. Desperate to fight against the growing menace of Nazi Germany, young Rogers signed up for ”operation rebirth” and received a combination of the super soldier serum and the vita ray bombardment that gave him his superhuman physique and turned him into America’s first and only super soldier. Thought to have been lost at the end of WW2, cap survived, frozen in ice, kept alive by the serum in his blood until he was revived decades later to carry on his battle against the enemies of America. While caps body functions at the peak of human ability, he must still train to keep his mind and body in optimal condition. Here’s how he does it.TRAINING CYCLE ONE-using a specially equipped gymnasium inside avengers mansion designed to keep him in top form, cap runs a circular indoor track with pieces of exercise equipment lain along the track spaced evenly apart.Cap runs a lap around,then stops at station 1 and does heavy barbell squats for 5 reps with 1500 lbs.Cap then runs two laps and stops at station 2 and does bench press with 1000lbs x 5 reps.Cap runs three laps, stops and does power-cleans with 800lbs x 5 reps.Continuing in this manner, cap does military press 800x 5, curls 500x 5,and dips with 300lbs attached via a heavy dumbell and special belt around his waist.TRAINING CYCLE TWO-On day two cap concentrates on honing his unique fighting skills. in order to do this cap pits himself against a small army of specially designed robots programed for both armed and hand to hand combat by none other then iron man himself.Running ,leaping and performing complex acrobatic manuevers, cap dodges, blocks, evades, destroys or incapacitates his artificial foes using everything at his disposal, including his vast skills in the martial arts combining combination punching from boxing, kicks and sweeps from karate, and throws from judo, all timed to perfection and done in coordination with the offensive/defensive capabilities of his famous shield.
