Kellan Lutz did some serious work to get in shape for The Legend of Hercules (this is the first of two separate Hercules movies in 2014, the second, Hercules: The Thracian Wars, stars The Rock and comes out later this year).
The Legend of Hercules stars Lutz as a young version of the demigod. Lutz, lest we not forget, is also part of the mega ensemble action cast for Expendables 3, so he is a bona fide member of the up-and-coming action stars in Hollywood.
He recently spoke to Knoxville.com about the upcoming Hercules movie, and he described how one exercise in particular helped him get in fighting shape for the numerous high-octane action sequences in the movie.
"I worked the arms for the sword. I would just do push-ups. I love push-ups, by the way, because you see the instant pump. For me, I just really love doing push-ups. I ended up doing about a thousand a day," he said.
Lutz went on to say that he followed the Paleo diet while shooting Hercules and felt that it gave him a ton of energy and an helped him get cut for the film. The movie, which is directed by Renny Harlin, also stars Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, and Liam McIntyre.
